Grant Cycle 7 confirmation signing between the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria & Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Health

ADDIS ABABA – June 18th, 2024 the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Health have launched the implementation of four new grants worth over US$441 million. The grants will sustain progress against HIV, tuberculosis (TB), Malaria and creating Resilient and Sustainable System for Health while strengthening health and community systems across the country over the 2024-2027 grant period.

“The past two decades have been tremendous; we have achieved a lot, but our country has also faced numerous challenges in the recent years, including COVID-19, conflict and climate change,” said H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. “This new grant cycle is a great opportunity to reaffirm that we are back, we want to do more and be closer to our community. We can reverse these challenges and use them as an opportunity to bounce back and strengthen not only our health infrastructure and digitalization, but also our health care capacity and health care force.”

H.E. Ms Semereta Sewasew, state Minister of Ministry of Finance and Chairperson of the CCM/E  said “The government of Ethiopia will remain fully committed to ending these three diseases as stipulated in the Sustainable Development Goals. The government will make every effort to expand the provision of health services towards universal health coverage and find sustainable sources of financing. We will ensure that the co-financing agreement of the GC7 grant implementation period is fulfilled as agreed. Additionally, we will continue exploring innovative mechanisms for health financing as part of the ambitious prosperity plan put forward by the government of Ethiopia.

“Ethiopia has been a key partner of the Global Fund over the years, achieving significant progress against HIV, TB and malaria while building resilient and sustainable systems for health,” said Mr. Lindon Morrison, Head of High Impact Africa II Department at the Global Fund.

Different partners, donors, key and affected population representatives and other stakeholders attended the Grant Cycle 7 confirmation signing event.
