117th CCM/E Regular Meeting Held in Addis Ababa

The Country Coordinating Mechanism Ethiopia (CCM/E) successfully conducted its 117th regular meeting on April 7, 2025, at the Inter Luxury Hotel in Addis Ababa. The meeting brought together CCM/E members, alternate members, and other observer stakeholders to review the implementation status of Global Fund-supported grants and to discuss critical issues affecting grant performance. The meeting was officially opened by H.E. Mrs. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Chairperson of the CCM/E, and Dr. Girmachew Mamo, Chief of Party at ISHDO and CCM/E Vice Chair. The main discussion points included an in-depth review of the progress and challenges related to HIV, TB, Malaria, RSSH, and C19RM grants, covering performance for the period of October to December 2024 (GC7 Period 2). The agenda also included discussions on the status of Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) grant revisions and the importance of diversifying funding sources, strengthening healthcare financing strategies, and investing in resilient and equitable health systems to sustain the progress of TB, HIV, and malaria interventions in Ethiopia.

A strategic focus on long-term sustainability was emphasized by CCM/E members, highlighting the need to ensure program continuity and gradually reduce reliance on external donors. Discussions underscored the importance of:

  • Diversifying funding sources.
  • Strengthening domestic health financing mechanisms.
  • Supporting local pharmaceutical production; and
  • Building resilient systems for health to ensure continued service delivery beyond donor support.

H.E. Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister of the Ministry of Health and CCM/E alternate member, provided updates on the progress of grant implementation, outlined current challenges, and highlighted key focus areas for the coming months. He also presented strategic plans by the government to ensure long-term program sustainability.
