Strengthening Civil Society Engagement: Capacity Building Workshop Empowering CSOs Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – April 14–15, 2025
The Country Coordinating Mechanism of Ethiopia (CCM/E) successfully conducted a two-day capacity-building workshop for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on April 14–15, 2025, at the Inter Luxury Hotel in Addis Ababa. The workshop brought together over 20 representatives from CSOs, serving as CCM/E members and alternates and other CSOs actively working on HIV, TB, malaria, and with Key and Vulnerable Populations (KVPs). The primary objective of the workshop was to strengthen CSOs’ understanding of the Global Fund’s mandate and empower them to play more effective roles within the CCM/E. Facilitated by Ms. Juliann Moodley, Global Fund Community Engagement Consultant, the sessions included presentations, interactive discussions, and collaborative group activities.

Key topics addressed included:
- The Global Fund Mandate and Stakeholder Roles
- Core functions and organizational structure of the Country Coordinating Mechanism
- Oversight mechanisms, committee operations, ethical conduct, conflict of interest policies, and strategies for effective constituency engagement
- Findings on the current state of CSO engagement with their constituencies and the broader community
- A significant outcome of the workshop was the collaborative drafting of a Community Engagement Plan and a Bi-Directional Communication Plan by participating CSO representatives. These strategic tools aim to foster stronger community participation, transparency, and accountability within Global Fund-supported programs in Ethiopia.

The workshop served as a valuable platform for peer learning, experience sharing, and relationship building among CSOs. Participants emphasized the critical role of civil society in driving effective, inclusive, and impactful implementation of HIV, TB, and malaria programs.

The CCM/E extends its sincere appreciation to all participants especially Ms. Juliann Moodley for her dedication and contributions toward advancing community engagement and governance in Global Fund processes.
