CCM Ethiopia’s Leadership in Advancing the HIV Sustainability Agenda

CCM Ethiopia, represented by its Executive Secretary, participated in a workshop organized by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and UNAIDS on December 18, 2024, to discuss the sustainability of HIV programs beyond 2030 and lay the foundation for developing a roadmap to accelerate the fight against HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. The event brought together distinguished leaders and partners, including MOH’s HIV Prevention and Control Lead Executive Office, UNAIDS Ethiopia, PEPFAR Ethiopia, NEP+, WHO Ethiopia, and civil society organizations. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030 through innovation, partnership, and shared responsibility across all sectors.
CCM Ethiopia remains steadfast in its role as a platform for inclusive dialogue, advocacy, and oversight in the fight against HIV/AIDS. During the event, CCM Ethiopia emphasized its critical contributions to the following key areas:
- Advocacy and Resource Mobilization: Ensuring the Ethiopian government meets and exceeds co-financing commitments to the Global Fund, advocating for increased resource allocation from the government treasury, and exploring diverse funding sources to bolster health system resilience.
- Strategic Oversight: Monitoring and ensuring the realization of co-financing commitments, which include USD 188.5 million allocated for HIV under the GC7 grant period (2024–2027), and strengthening systems to track resource allocation and utilization effectively.
- Inclusive Planning and Innovation: Facilitating the development of the HIV Sustainability Roadmap as a strategic necessity to secure long-term success in HIV interventions, building on past achievements, and designing cohesive frameworks to leave no one behind.
The HIV Sustainability Roadmap initiative aligns with the core principles of the Global Fund—co-financing, sustainability, and transition. It represents an opportunity to strengthen partnerships by leveraging collective expertise and innovative ideas, addressing gaps, ensuring a cohesive approach to HIV program sustainability, and serving as a model for other health programs in Ethiopia.
As we embark on this journey, CCM Ethiopia reaffirms its commitment to advocating for quality of life of affected communities as the highest priority, promoting an integrated approach for sustainability that considers unique program requirements, supporting the MOH in its commendable leadership, and ensuring that the sustainability agenda is realized through well-functioning health systems. CCM Ethiopia looks forward to productive discussions and continued collaboration with all stakeholders to achieve the ambitious goal of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030.
