HIV/AIDS Constituency Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Meeting
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
On December 19, 2025, the CCM/E Secretariat hosted a meeting for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on HIV/AIDS. Attendees included representatives from CSOs actively involved in HIV/AIDS programming, as well as organizations supporting key and priority populations and communities affected by the disease. The meeting opened with welcoming remarks delivered by Dr. Girmachew Mamo, CCM/E Vice Chairperson and former CSO Engagement Focal Point, setting an inspiring tone for collaboration and inclusive participation.


The core objective of the meeting was to enhance meaningful CSO engagement in CCM/E processes, foster stronger bidirectional communication with constituencies, and outline clear expectations for CSOs in the upcoming Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8) funding application.


Key Presentations and Discussions
The agenda included valuable presentations, experience-sharing sessions, and open discussions led by CCM/E representatives:
- Dr. Girmachew Mamo (Vice Chairperson of the CCM/E) explored CSO involvement in planning, review, and GC7 implementation, emphasizing opportunities, strategies to prioritize community needs, and the roadmap for the remaining GC7 period and GC8 preparation.
- Mr. Kassahun Tadesse (CCM/E Member) addressed preparation and support for CSO representatives in CCM/E meetings, the influence of CSO contributions on grant implementation, challenges in ensuring diverse voices are heard, and recommendations moving forward.
- Mrs. Tsehay Admasu (CCM/E Alternate Member) focused on pre- and post-CCM/E constituency meetings, their purpose, ways to revitalize them for effective two-way dialogue, and plans for GC7 completion and GC8.
- Mr. Beyene Miju (CCM/E Alternate Member) shared insights on Sub-Recipients CSOs engagement during grant reprioritization, consultation gaps, incorporation of community feedback, and proposed enhancements for the GC8 application process.


Participants also received comprehensive refresher training from the CCM/E Secretariat covering:
- CSO engagement and bidirectional communication
- Oversight roles and responsibilities
- Global Fund Code of Conduct
- Conflict of Interest management

An interactive highlight was the “Power Walk” exercise, which helped participants reflect on power dynamics, identify vulnerabilities, and recognize community members needing additional protection.

The meeting concluded with the election of a new CSO Engagement Focal Person and closing remarks by Dr. Girmachew Mamo, reinforcing commitments to collaborative progress.
This gathering highlighted the essential contributions of CSOs in driving inclusive, impactful Global Fund grant implementation and laid a solid foundation for enhanced partnerships in GC8.
