World Malaria Day

The 18th Ethiopian World Malaria Day was commemorated on April 26 in Jimma Town with various events, organized in collaboration with the Oromia Health Bureau, Jimma Zone Health Bureau, and Jimma City Administration. As part of the activities, a visit was made to Higher 2 Health Center in Jimma Town, where the team was warmly welcomed by the Health Center CEO. A brief overview of the malaria situation was presented using graphical displays and data visualizations.

The World Malaria Day commemoration was honored by the presence of His Excellency Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister of the Ministry of Health, as well as officials from the Jimma Zone Administration and the Mayor of Jimma Town. The day was marked with vibrant sports activities and cultural shows that showcased the rich traditions of the Oromia region.

This year’s motto, “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” highlighted the need for innovation, resource integration, and renewed, all-rounded commitment to the fight against malaria.

Ahead of the event, extensive preparations were carried out to ensure its success. Senior officials also emphasized the importance of sustained efforts and long-term programs to prevent a resurgence of the epidemic.
