Global Fund Mission to Ethiopia: CSO Consultative Meeting

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Country Team conducted an official mission to Ethiopia from March 31 to April 3, 2026. As part of this visit, a consultative meeting was held with Civil Society Organization (CSO) constituency representatives from the HIV, TB, and Malaria constituencies on April 2, 2026, at the Mekdim Ethiopia Office.

Key Highlights

Mrs. Ivandra Chirrime (PHME), representing the Global Fund Country Team, emphasized the critical role of communities and CSOs in the fight against HIV, TB, and Malaria. She highlighted that communities are at the center of the Global Fund strategy and stressed the importance of accessing life-saving services through health facilities with strong civil society involvement.

GC8 Priority Focus Areas

  • Integration of service delivery across HIV, TB, and Malaria programs
  • Management of Key and Priority Population (KPP) clinics by CSOs, including services for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW)
  • Strengthening new case findings, especially for TB through improved notification and contact tracing, and increased malaria case detection efforts

CSO constituency members raised key challenges observed during the implementation of the GC7 grant. They shared lessons learned and noted improvements in CSO engagement compared to previous years. Members also asked whether the visiting Country Team had recognized and reflected on the repeated issues raised in earlier discussions by the constituency.

Country Team Response

  • The Global Fund Country Team acknowledged the concerns raised and provided directions on how these issues are being addressed.
  • The Team committed to summarizing key discussion points, outlining clear action items, and following up on the progress of agreed actions.

This consultative meeting reinforced the importance of collaboration between the Global Fund and CSOs, ensuring that communities remain central to the fight against HIV, TB, and Malaria in Ethiopia.
